Vigo di Fassa - holidays for mountaineers
Vigo di Fassa is situated right below the Passo di
Carezza. It is a popular starting point for climbing-tours and
excursions in summer and for snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing,
alpine skiing and backcountry skiing in winter.
An absolute must-visit is the Mount
"Ciampedie". You reach Ciampedie with a homonymous cable
car from Vigo di Fassa. Up there, at 1.998 m above sea level, you
have a wonderful view over the surrounding
mountains- from the Rosengarten to the Pale di San
Martino. Ciampile is a rewarding skiing area in
winter. It offers different black slopes for
professionals. One of those is called "Tomba" after the
Italian ski racer Alberto Tomba.
In summer, however, many professional soccer
teams from all over Italy use Vigo di Fassa as location to
prepare for upcoming seasons. The climate, the air pressure and the
altitude are perfect for a good and efficient training. Some of
Italy's most famous soccer teams, like Turin, Sampdoria, Lecce and
Lazio have already been here.
Vigo di Fassa is also the seat of the Ladin Culture Institute.
Here you get additional information about the Ladin
traditions and culture. There is also a very interesting
museum for you to visit here.
