The locals call the Marmolada "queen of the Dolomites", because the mountain is one of the highest peaks of the Dolomites and the only one with a glacier on the Northern side.
To go on the top you need thick clothing, climbing iron, pick-axe and a rope. Only by god weather is this mountain hike commendable.
Description
Starting from the Lago di Fedaia Lake (reachable from Canazei) you can take the cable car to reach the Rifugio Pian dei Fiacconi Refuge. There you have to take path 606 which leads you over the glacier up to the Forcella d. Marmolada. There the fixed-rope route begins. Follow it climbing medium difficult parts and some ladders until you reach the peak of Mount Marmolada di Penia (3342m). To get back to Rifugio Pian dei Fiacconi you take the glacier route. Please pay attention to possible crevasses and ice.
